Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about reading, your account and publishing on Orbit Novels. Tap a question to open it.

Reading

Is Orbit Novels really free?

Yes. Every chapter of every novel is free to read in full. There are no coins, no unlock currency, no subscriptions and no paywall.

Do I need an account to read?

No. Anyone can open a novel and read. An account is only needed to save novels, rate, comment, like chapters, follow authors, get notifications, keep your reading progress, or publish.

How do I change the text size, colors or font?

On any chapter page, tap Aa Reading settings. Use A− and A+ for text size, pick the page color — Auto (matches the site theme), Dark, Sepia or Light — and choose a Serif or Sans font. Your choice is saved in this browser and applied to every chapter you open on this device.

Will the site remember where I stopped reading?

Yes, when you are signed in. The chapter you were reading and how far you scrolled are saved. The homepage then shows a Continue reading card, and your Library has a Reading History tab with a progress bar for each novel.

How do I move around a novel with hundreds of chapters?

The Table of Contents on a novel page shows 25 chapters at a time. Tap a range such as 26–50 to jump, use the arrows for the next or previous 25, or switch to newest first to see the latest chapters at the top.

Why does a chapter ask me to confirm before showing it?

The author marked that chapter as containing mature content. The text is only loaded after you confirm, and the question appears again on each visit.

What are content warnings and author's notes?

Authors can add a short content warning at the top of a chapter (for example violence) and an author's note, which is a message from the author shown with the chapter.

Library, ratings, comments & follows

How do I save a novel for later?

Press + My List on the novel's page while signed in. Saved novels appear in your Library under Saved Books. Press the button again to remove it.

How do ratings work?

Signed-in readers can give each novel 1 to 5 stars from the Reviews tab of the novel page. You have one rating per novel and can change it any time. Authors cannot rate their own novels. The rating shown is the average, with the number of ratings beside it.

Where do I comment?

Comments live on each chapter: scroll to the end of a chapter to read and post them. You need to be signed in, and a comment can be up to 4,000 characters. The Community page shows the newest comments from across the site.

What does following an author do?

Press + Follow on an author's profile. When that author publishes a new novel (its first chapter goes live), you get a notification. Following also counts toward the author's follower total.

Which notifications will I get?

You are notified when someone follows you, likes one of your chapters, or comments on your novel; when an author you follow publishes a new novel; and when the status of a novel request you made changes. See them under Notifications.

Rankings & finding novels

How are the rankings calculated?

This Week ranks novels by reader activity over the last 7 days. All Time ranks novels by their total views. See the Ranking page.

How are views counted?

A view is counted when a reader opens a novel page or a chapter. The same visitor is counted at most once per novel or chapter every 30 minutes, and search-engine bots and other automated tools are not counted, so refreshing a page does not inflate the number.

What is the best way to find something to read?

Use the Novel Finder to filter by genre, tags, status, chapter count, rating and date added. All Novels lists everything with sorting, each genre has its own page, and Made for You suggests novels from the genres in your My List (or trending novels if your list is empty).

Can I ask for a novel that is not on the site?

Yes. Signed-in readers can submit a request on Request Novels and vote for other readers' requests on Vote Novels. You are notified if the status of your request changes.

Your account

What do I need to create an account?

A username of 3 to 30 characters (lowercase letters, numbers, underscores or hyphens) and a password of at least 8 characters. An email address is optional, but without one you cannot reset a forgotten password. Sign in or create an account.

I forgot my password. What now?

Use Forgot password on the sign-in page and enter your username. If your account has an email address, a reset link is sent to it. If you never added an email, contact us and we will help.

How do I change my password, name, bio or profile picture?

Change your password in Settings. Edit your display name and bio from your profile page, where you can also upload a profile picture (JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF, up to 5 MB) and crop it.

How do I delete my account?

There is no self-service delete button yet. Email us from the contact page with your username and we will delete the account.

Writing & publishing

Can anyone publish a novel?

Yes. Publishing is free for any signed-in member. Create the novel's details (title, author name, genre, status, tags, description and cover), then add chapters. The full walkthrough is on How to publish.

Does the editor save my work?

Yes. The chapter editor autosaves about four seconds after you stop typing, and again when you switch chapters or leave the tab. Chapters stay private drafts until you press Publish. Focus mode shows only the title and text, and the Aa menu gives you a dark, sepia or light page.

I already have a finished manuscript. Do I have to paste every chapter?

No. Use Paste & Auto-Split: paste the whole text and it is split into chapters at headings such as Chapter 2 or ตอนที่ 2, or every set number of words (never mid-sentence). You check every chapter in a preview before saving. The free Chapter Splitter does the same without an account.

What images can I upload?

Covers and in-chapter images can be JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF files up to 5 MB each. You can also paste a link to a cover image instead of uploading one.

How do I edit or delete a chapter or a whole novel?

Open Dashboard, then Manage on the novel. The manage page lists every chapter with its status and views, 25 per page, with Edit and Delete buttons. Deleting the whole novel is in the Danger zone on that page and cannot be undone.

Who owns what I publish?

You do. Publishing on Orbit Novels does not transfer ownership of your writing. Only publish work you wrote or have permission to publish; see the Terms of Service and the content policy.

Why can't I find my new novel on Google yet?

Search engines take days to weeks to discover and list new pages. Novel pages and the first three chapters of each novel are offered to search engines; later chapters are reached from the novel page instead. Sharing your novel's link (it shows a preview image) is the fastest way to get your first readers.

Safety, privacy & support

How do I report a novel, chapter or comment?

Use the Report button on the novel page, the chapter page or next to a comment, and describe the problem. You need to be signed in. You can also email us.
