Friday, May first, was the day before the official grand opening of Ethan's Audio & Vintage Repair.
The entire week had been a flurry of preparations—Maya had designed stunning grand opening flyers that were posted in every coffee shop and bookstore in three districts, Sarah had baked five hundred mini tarts and pastry samples, and Leo had set up a live online streaming event for vintage music lovers across the region.
At eight PM on Friday night, Ethan stood alone in the center of his shop.
The lights were set low, the dark green walls looked rich and warm, the walnut floorboards shone under the soft spotlights, and the scent of fresh coffee, polished wood, and clean soldering flux filled the room.
The front door opened quietly, and Maya stepped inside, wearing a dark green velvet dress that made her eyes look impossibly deep and beautiful.
Ethan froze, staring at her as she walked across the floor toward him.
"You look..." Ethan stammered, his brain completely shutting down.
"Do I look like a grand opening co-owner?" she smiled, stepping right into his arms.
Ethan wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close, resting his forehead against hers. "You look incredible."
Maya looked around the finished shop, her hands resting on his chest, her dark eyes bright with pride and affection.
"Look at what you built, Ethan," she whispered.
"We built it," Ethan corrected softly. "I couldn't have done a single room of this without you."
Maya smiled—that small, crooked, genuine smile he’d fallen in love with six months ago—and lifted her face to kiss him.
It was a long, deep, quiet kiss that carried all the cold morning setups, the heavy sofa haulings, the late-night painting sessions, and the quiet river walks of the last half-year, sealing their journey into a solid, unbreakable promise for tomorrow.
