Chapter 47: Project Overlord (Part 2)

High in orbit above the East Coast, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s reconnaissance satellite Eye-6 swept its ultra-high-resolution thermal imaging grid across the gridiron streets of New York City.

Inside the command deck of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, three hundred operators sat at glowing glass monitors, monitoring the real-time feeds of Project Overlord. Massive holographic maps of Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn flickered in crisp, cold blue, showing every pedestrian, vehicle, and sub-surface heat signature with surgical military precision.

"Sub-surface acoustic sweep complete," an intelligence officer reported, tapping her headset. "Sensors in the Queens IND subway line are picking up faint electrical interference. Triangulating the subway lair now, Director."

Nick Fury stood behind her, his single eye fixed on the central holographic table. "Send Strike Team Alpha and Beta. Non-lethal containment on Romanoff and Hardy. The clown gets high-voltage stun-harpoons."

"Locking thermal targeting..." the officer murmured.

Suddenly, every screen on the command deck gave a sharp, high-pitched BEEP!

The crisp blue holographic map of New York didn't just flicker—it exploded into a blinding sea of searing neon-crimson ping dots!

BZZZZZZT!

"What the hell just happened?!" Fury growled, leaning over the console. "Did the satellite recalibrate?!"

"Director! Satellite Eye-6 is... it's compromised!" the lead technician yelled, his hands flying across his keyboard in a blind panic. "Thermal signatures are popping up across the entire Tri-State area! First floor, fifty-fifth floor, sewers, taxi cabs, pigeon coops, the Statue of Liberty!"

"How many signatures?!"

"One... one million, sir!" the operator gasped, turning pale under his headset. "Every single heat signature in New York City—human, animal, exhaust pipe, and radiator—has been re-classified by the satellite software as 'Target: Joker'!"

Back in the subterranean Queens lair, Jack was leaning back in an old wooden swivel chair, holding an stolen Stark sub-quantum transmitter wired directly into an arcade joystick.

His bloodshot eyes were blazing with pure, ecstatic crimson light as [50.0% SYNCHRONIZATION] hummed through his nervous system. By combining [Joker’s Anarchy Ledger] with his newly unlocked [Joker's Reality Distortion], he had tapped straight into the orbital satellite’s thermal-mapping algorithm, corrupting its image-recognition code and turning Project Overlord’s state-of-the-art radar into a giant, glitching kaleidoscope!

"ONE MILLION CLOWNS!" Jack screech-screamed into his brass microphone, spinning around in his swivel chair like a six-year-old on a sugar rush. "LOOK AT 'EM GO, RED! THEY'RE IN THE TAXIS! THEY'RE IN THE PIZZA OVENS! THEY'RE IN NICK FURY'S EYE PATCH! HAHAHAHA!"

Natasha leaned against the workbench, a slow, breathtaking smirk spreading across her face as she watched S.H.I.E.L.D.'s billion-dollar satellite tracking grid collapse into absolute gibberish on their local monitors.

Through [The Royal Flush Command], her mind vibrated with Jack’s wild, intoxicating amusement.

"They're going to have to shut down the entire satellite feed," Natasha transmitted smoothly into their shared mental link. "Which means Project Overlord just lost its eyes."

"And while they're running around trying to arrest a million hot dog stands," Felicia laughed, tossing a bag of uncut diamonds over her shoulder, "we take the subway line straight into Midtown!"

Jack jumped up from his swivel chair, grabbing his lavender velvet coat and throwing it on with a violent, joyful flourish. He looked at Natasha and Felicia, his crimson scar-smile gleaming under the warm bulb light.

"LADIES!" Jack bellowed, his raspy voice echoing through the damp concrete tunnels. "S.H.I.E.L.D. LOCKED DOWN THE CITY TO FIND US... SO LET'S GO GIVE 'EM A HAND!"

He slammed his foot down on a manual track switch lever.

CLANG-THWACK!

An abandoned, vintage 1970s subway car sitting on the side track—spray-painted from bumper to bumper with giant red smiles, green hazard lines, and neon party streamers—powered up with a deafening, electric ROAR!

Natasha vaulted onto the rear platform, her twin pistols drawn, while Felicia leaped onto the roof like a panther. Jack took the driver's controls, slamming the throttle to maximum acceleration as the train shot down the dark tunnel toward Midtown Manhattan, leaving a cloud of purple carnival smoke behind.
