Chapter 52: After the Storm (Part 1)

The hum of S.H.I.E.L.D. rotors slowly faded into the misty Manhattan night.

Down on Broad Street, Director Nick Fury stared at his flickering wrist comm, his jaw set in a hard, dangerous line. Surrounded by thousands of singing, dancing citizens who actively blocked every tactical transport, he gave the order that stung his pride to the core.

"All units, disengage," Fury growled into his earpiece, his voice cold enough to freeze hell over. "Stand down and fall back to Triskelion Command. We do not engage two hundred thousand civilians to catch three targets. Fall back."

Captain America offered a quiet, firm nod, gesturing for his squad to stow their weapons. Beside him, Tony Stark simply deactivated his Nanotech Gauntlet, shaking his head with a bitter, exhausted chuckle as he watched the sky.

The battle for Wall Street was over. The clown hadn't just wonβ€”he had rewritten the rules of engagement.

An hour later, high above Midtown in their seized penthouse safehouse, the atmosphere was thick with triumph, warm amber lighting, and expensive champagne.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling glass walls, the rain had softened into a gentle, sparkling drizzle over the glowing New York skyline. Below, distant car horns and firework pops echoed from street level as the city's impromptu celebration raged on into the early morning hours.

Felicia was sprawled out across a plush white leather sofa, kicking her bare feet onto a glass table piled high with bearer bonds, diamonds, and glowing Stark tech prototypes. She held a crystal flute of Vintage Krug champagne high in the air, her platinum hair damp from the storm.

"To half a trillion dollars wiped off the face of the earth!" Felicia toasted with a feral, dazzling smile. "And to making Tony Stark look like a second-rate security guard on live television!"

"To the bank crash of the century," Natasha agreed softly.

She stood near the open terrace door in a soft silk robe, her dark red hair draped over her shoulders. She turned, her steel-grey eyes shining with a deep, intimate warmth as she looked at Jack. Through [The Royal Flush Command], the shared neural link thrummed with a calm, euphoric wavelengthβ€”a sweet, intoxicating resonance left in the wake of 65.0% Synchronization.

Jack was sitting back in a leather wingback chair, his velvet coat tossed over a stool, his white shirt unbuttoned at the collar. His bloodshot eyes glowed with a soft, pulsing crimson-violet hue as his new [Joker's Anarchy Domain] settled comfortably beneath his skin.

He held a lit cigar between his fingers, trailing lazy grey smoke rings toward the ceiling.

"Oh, my lovely accomplices..." Jack purred, his raspy voice dropping into a rich, intimate hum that echoed inside both of their minds. "Look at that skyline out there. That isn't S.H.I.E.L.D.'s city anymore. It isn't the Avengers' playground either. That's OUR kingdom now."

Natasha walked over, stepping right between his knees and taking the champagne glass from his hand, taking a slow sip before setting it down. She leaned in close, resting her forehead against his, her fingers tracing the sharp line of his scar.

"Sixty-five percent, Jack," Natasha whispered, her voice a velvety purr against his lips. "What happens when you hit one hundred?"

Jack wrapped his arm tightly around her waist, pulling her onto his lap while reaching out his other hand to pull Felicia off the couch and into the fold. He threw his head back, letting out a soft, raspy, satisfied hehehe that vibrated straight through their shared connection.

"When we hit one hundred, Moscow..." Jack whispered wildly, his crimson smile gleaming under the penthouse lights. "We don't just run New York. WE TAKE THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD FOR A RIDE! HAHAHAHA!"
